Application Description
The export of student details from Business Objects can sometimes miss the required criteria. Business Objects is a database system which holds all student details for a particular educational establishment. One of its departments will extract student names
with the names of modules that they have chosen to complete their degree. Extracted names and details are placed into a spreadsheet but this extract is very basic. Reports can be run from Business Objects but departmental requirements tend to be very exact.
The marking process, which this solution will address also tends to be specific to each department.
Using Excel/VBA, details of students can be extracted from Business Objects, assigned to different workbooks and/or used to create complex solutions and reports.
The initial stage is a spreadsheet (BOExtract) consisting of students with all the modules required for completion of the academic year. The main spreadsheet will provide a menu to control the process. The process will be in three stages.
Firstly, the creation of marking sheets for each tutor. One of the menu options will activate code to extract names from BOExtract and place each name in all of the marking sheets for modules that they have selected. For example, each name could be in 7
out of 13 possible modules.
Secondly, once marking is complete, the second option will import all the results from all the marking sheets into the main spreadsheet. Degree classification will be calculated in this sheet.
Lastly, module results and degree class will be exported back into BOExtract and hence back into Business Objects.Training will provided for this solution.
