Pros

Seamless download, install and deployment. Huge amount of feedback at the click of a button integrated directly into Word. Suggested improvements for your writing. Alternative review mechanisms to run or run them all at once. Students have little difficulty finding something they can use to provide constructive feedback without going out of Word to another application.

Cons

I'd like to see an originality check. Even a basic one with %rating. Similarly, it would be useful to have a % score/grade for paper as a rough guide for starting place before editing the doc and as a guide to see when it reaches a level the author finds acceptable for proceeding on the publishing or presenting.

Additional Comments

Our students will steadily take up the offer to use this tool as an aid to improving their writing. I sense that once they reach university there will be a mad scramble to remember how to get their own copy in an attempt to keep ahead of others they will be competing for marks with at that level.

Overall this plug-in is very useful- much better than the native word 2010 feature Liked its integration with Word, its own tab and v clear ribbon options Liked its simplicity. V easy to use. No complicated options Really liked the show/hide hardest sentence function - really useful to focus effort where it's needed!

Cons

Had a problem initially installing plugin - something about certificates? Resolved it by lowering security on Internet Explorer, installing and then raise security back up, so no big problem

Additional Comments

It would be nice to have a way of stopping the plugin if its taking a long time but I could not see how to do that. Would be nice to have a way of printing (or somehow caturing) the reports output. A bit more explanation around the individual reports would be helpful A help facility would be nice to have, but the documentation supplied is fine.

Pros

My work involves writing texts in English, targeted to a multi-national audience for whom English is a foreign language. I often need to write several versions of a text, each adapted to a reading level based on guidelines from the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework. Mostly choice of vocabulary and grammar structure is a matter of judgement. Traditional ease of reading grading based on word length has seldom proved helpful. The concept of using word frequency to judge readability is academically sound and has considerable promise, and after only a few experiments with the program on previously written text I realised it was well-worth obtaining a full version to integrate into my workflow.

Cons

I would have preferred a time limited trial version rather than one with reduced functions.

I will add that I was impressed with the ease of installation of the program, and its complete integration into Word 2010. It is intuitive to use, and I am confident that with experiment I will be able to adapt it to my specific needs with little difficulty.

Pros

This inexpensive plugin installs fairly quick and is easy to use. I'm no expert in readability but the references to internet articles on readability formula's are very helpfull. I used the trial version which didn't allow me to use the some functions. However, the available functions helped me already to improve my texts. Especially the "Detailed Report" and the "Show Hardest Sentence" appeared very helpfull.

Cons

It was a pitty that I could not try all features. Is only available for Word 2010.

In my role as an editorial manager, I've been using this plugin for some time to monitor the correlation between readability and traffic quality for web texts (bounce rate, etc). Because it contains both simple and detailed reporting, and covers all the major readability systems, the plugin is a one-stop-shop for anyone who needs to keep an eye on text readability. The plugin provides simple and detailed reports and can identify sentences and words which are particularly easy or difficult to read. You can add words or phrases to the plugin's terminology file, so that more technical texts don't score so badly. Tooltips explain each element and score (this is important because some scales ascend in readability and others descend). In all, this is a complete readability solution for Word. Anyone who works in writing or editing, particularly for the web, would find it helpful.

Some more built-in help would be nice. Apart from that, there's nothing negative to say.

Pros

This is a good quick tool for pointing out errors in a document. A couple of quick checks is all it takes.

Cons

The screen with the reading scores was a bit too small, and the numbers were too close together for some of our disability students. The developer was very positive about making changes in future versions.

Pros

I love this plugin! It's very easy to get a quick view of the readability of the entire document, while also allowing you to zoom into the specific sentence readability. Especially like the syllables counting features, and the 6 grading scales. Right now, I'm using the "easiest/hardest sentence" tool to work my way through each paragraph until the final report is much easier to read.

Cons

The only thing I would like to see is the addition of a count of >3 syllable words at the sentence level.

I'm currently using this tool to study readability and improve an operations manual containing policies and procedures. The goal is to increase the compliance by making a manual that is easier to read and understand. Great plugin and works perfectly for this task.
