We don’t believe that licensing is complicated, but we do think that the licensing of software in volume is a sufficiently complex arena to require a detailed specialisation, rather than to be included amongst the provision of other services. We also believe that a percentage of the advantage derived from adopting a particular strategy regarding product usage and deployment is lost if you make the wrong decision on how best to license it.
Experience has taught us that the two factors to which customers attach the greatest importance from their licensing supplier are accuracy and speed. There are lots of suppliers in our marketplace and inevitably some are better than others – having to second guess whether the advice you have been provided with is correct or not renders it worthless. Likewise, the flow of information from supplier to customer absolutely must be timely, and where possible pre-emptive.
As a consequence we have designed a package of services around software licensing that we believe offers a comprehensive solution, and allows you to view our team as an effective licensing specific extension of your own IT and Purchasing departments.
The licensing consultants employed by Softcat have as much as ten years individual experience of volume software licensing agreements. Any software offering must be underpinned by a knowledge of licensing and software, right down to such seemingly mundane details as knowledge of version numbers and upgrade paths. This is not just how they are now, but how they have been historically, and whether you have ten PCs or ten thousand, how it’s going to effect your plans for the future.
