Application Description
The Consumer Health Portal (CHP) is a reference implementation of the type of service that will demonstrate the objectives of the Key Directions project in the New Zealand health environment. This project focuses on improved health outcomes through healthcare consumer-centric long term condition management and well-being programs through the development of a personal healthcare portal.
Through engagement with the portal healthcare consumers will have access to information to make better healthcare decisions and assume greater control over their well-being.
Improved information about the healthcare consumer’s progress will lead to better timed interventions by the health practitioner and so reduce the frequency and severity of the onset of acute episodes. This will result in improved quality of daily life for the healthcare consumer as well as a reduction in the number of hospital admissions and therefore cost.
To support the healthcare consumer to self manage their condition the healthcare consumer will be provided with an individualised care plan. This will outline the key goals and measurement for the healthcare consumer to maintain and improve their health status.
The portal is developed using a mix of Microsoft technologies:
- ASP.NET
- .NET Framework 2.0
- SQL Server 2005
Integration with external systems are handled by the Health Connection Engine (HCE), a service that enables systems to exchange clinical information in a reliable and secure way. HCE is developed using the following technologies:
- .NET Framework 2.0
- BizTalk Server 2006 R2
- SQL Server 2005
- Web Services
HCE enabled the integrations between parties using a mix of non-Microsoft technologies like Java and Cold Fusion, broadening the spectrum of the systems interoperability.
