Microsoft Pinpoint and Marketplace Profile Guidelines

Guidance and Requirements to Help You Get Listed

A profile that tells customers exactly what your expertise is, and how your software applications and professional services address their specific business needs, can dramatically increase your customer engagement opportunities.

Follow the guidelines below to create a strong Company Overview and Application or Professional Service Listings—and to meet the requirements for content quality, formatting, and listing in other countries.

Before you begin: Please ensure your offerings meet Pinpoint’s defined criteria for software applications and professional services and that your company has a URL for a publicly available website. When you've finished, follow these next steps.

Creating and Revising Your Profile

Write Your Company Overview in Three Steps

Use the following prompts in the sequence given to create your Company Overview. The information you provide must be current. Tip: Customers want to hear what you can do to help their business thrive. They want to know exactly what you can deliver, not what your vision or mission is.

  1. State your company’s expertise..
[Example: ABC Enterprises delivers on-site and e-learning training…]
  2. Explain the benefit of what you offer or the problem that you help customers solve.
[Example: We help your employees build practical skills that they can apply immediately to improve productivity and lower your costs.]
  3. List the professional services and software applications you want to promote. Use bullets to list.
  4. Requirements:

    • Must be a minimum of 20 words and a maximum of 250 words. For most languages, including English, do not exceed 1800 characters. For languages like Russian, German, Finnish and others in which words consistently have larger character counts, do not exceed 2500 characters. If in doubt, default to fewer words.
    • Describes your qualifications and expertise, or those of your company.
    • Must use your legal company name.
    • Should not include quotes, URLs, or contact information such as your company physical address, email address or phone number.
    • Should not refer to another Microsoft partner company by name, unless it is a subsidiary or somehow affiliated with your company, or you have a current agreement with that partner company to act in partnership and/or promote each other for shared work opportunities.

Unless you have work agreements with other Microsoft partners, referring to other partner companies in your profile can skew search results for your company and cause confusion for customers who are seeking partners with specific areas of expertise. If you mention working for or with another partner company in the past, please get the company’s permission to do so.

Important note: The company name you list on Pinpoint must be the legal company name that is registered and licensed to do business in your region. Your company name cannot include Microsoft products.

Write Your Application or Professional Service Listing in Two Steps

After you’ve written your company overview, you’re ready to write listings for your applications and/or services.

  1. Name your software application or professional service.
Keep the name short. Use simple, straightforward language. The information you provide must be current.

    Requirements:
    • Must be a minimum of one word and a maximum of 10 words. For most languages, including English, do not exceed 70 characters. For languages like Russian, German, Finnish and others in which words consistently have larger character counts, do not exceed 100 characters. If in doubt, default to fewer words.
    • Cannot be the same as an existing Microsoft product.
    • If your service is reselling a Microsoft product, the words “Sales” or “Reseller” must be included in the service name. Example: Microsoft Dynamics Reseller.
    • Capitalise the first letter of each word. If, however, your offering name is branded, please express the name exactly as it is branded.
    • If you create multiple industry, or use specific listings for an application or service, treat each listing as a unique offering. The name of each offering must clearly specify the intended use or industry.

  2. Write Your Application or Professional Service Listing
Your clear and succinct responses to the prompts below, in the sequence given, will create a well written listing.
    • State what your application or service does and/or what customer issue it addresses.
    • State what Microsoft technologies this application or service enhances or builds upon.
    • Specify the benefits this application or service offers in a bulleted list.

    • Must state what your application or service is, what it does and 3-5 customer benefits.
    • Should not include quotes, URLs, or contact information such as your company physical address, email address or phone number.
    • If you create multiple industry, or use specific listings for an application or service, treat each listing as a unique offering. The description of each offering must be differentiated and targeted by using keywords that are specific to the intended use or industry.

Note on choosing categories: When you create a listing for your application or service, you can choose up to three categories for Relevant Business Needs, up to three applicable industries, and up to five Microsoft products that work with your offering. The more specific you can be in your category selections and in describing the value and benefits of your application or professional service, the better your chances for customer engagement. General listings with many associations result in lower search rankings.

Quality and Formatting Requirements

When you create or revise your profile and submit it for approval it is reviewed by members of the Pinpoint team and the relevant product specific marketplace teams. Profile quality is assessed for the following:

Content Quality and Tone

  • Write in the first person: “We have expertise in …,” “Our services help you …”
  • Company Overview focuses on the skills and expertise your company offers.
  • Application and Service Listings focus on what your offerings do and the benefits customers can expect from them.
  • Adherence to the guidance in the Creating and Revising Your Profile section above, which tells you exactly what information to include.

Formatting and Grammar

  • No spelling, capitalisation, punctuation or grammatical errors.
  • Do not include Microsoft product trademark symbols.
  • Do not use bold type, italics or underlining.
  • No rich text formatting. Please use plain text formatting only.

Graphic Files

When adding your company logo and screenshots for your application or service, please link to files in GIF or JPEG format in the following sizes:

  • Company logo file: Pixel dimension 100(w) x 100(h)
  • Product or service screenshot: Pixel dimension 640(w) x 480(h)
Country and Language Requirements

Your Company Overview and Application or Service Listings must be written in the native language of your specific region. For example, only applications and professional services offered in the United States and described in English will be included in the Pinpoint marketplace for the United States.

When submitting your profile to a new marketplace, the website you link to must be in the same language as the marketplace. For instance, if your company is located in the United Kingdom and you want to add your profile to the German marketplace, you must link to a German version of your website. Learn more about listing in another language or country.
