The old solution was slow; the landing pages were cluttered and difficult to find the relevant information. A clean look and feel was introduced and relevant information was
pushed to the landing page based on the location of the relevant user looking at the home page. Views and improved metadata are used within each area to help the user find the information easier and quicker. Information is split into three main areas, Global,
Regional and Local.
The old solutions architecture was a distributed solution, this comprised of eight large SPS server farms each server farm comprised of five servers. The new solution went
for a combined centralized distributed architecture. The Centralized server farm comprises of a five server farm running MOSS 2007 WSS 30 and two server farm in each location running WSS 30. The Centralized environment houses the main portal for Sappi Europe
and central sites used for collaboration by users across all regionals. The Local environment is used for collaboration within the location - Sappi has enjoyed the following benefits from the upgraded solution - Reduced costs for hardware and administration
costs - Improved performance - Easier document collaboration - Improved search - Relevant information for the user is shown
Sappi Net Europe Intranet upgrade from SPS 2003 to MOSS 2007 has not been reviewed by any customers.
