The old website was difficult to navigate through, had an outdated look and feel and was very difficult to maintain. Mint was engaged to provide the analysis services and make relevant recommendations
thereafter. After the analysis Mint recommended Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) as the right technology to enable the business needs.
MOSS 2007 was implemented by Mint to improve the way they manage content within the organization. They previously had a variety of systems with content duplication and with management of
things like events and coarse outline material in different places.
MOSS was implemented to assist in the governance of information within the company and to allow them to publish content in a granular process from internal (Intranet) to the external facing environment (Internet).
Information that was managed manually is now delivered in a more systematic fashion. To do this, the repository abilities within the MOSS product allowed for business information such as course content to be stored for easy retrieval. The important business
value was quickly identified as all the content was maintained centrally with little or no duplication, but had a broad deployment. The repository functionality was also used to show pictures in around the site in a rotating fashion. This content was managed
by the users which was previously not possible.
From this key benefit a tool was developed for students to check their ability to gain access to a course. This calculator used portions of data stored in the repositories to calculate an
Additional features were developed also helped the users to plan and manage marketing campaigns that are run on a regular basis. This is a key need as the campaigns could be for a single
department or stretch across multiple departments.
This solution met additional objectives that became apparent as the project progressed; Information ownership, a consolidated platform that can be utilised across the entire university, more efficient and effective information management, a common platform
that is tightly integrated into the Microsoft stack.
