Description

Nampak is Africa’s largest packaging organization with operations in 19 countries around the world and exports to over 70 countries. Nampak is the world’s most diverse packaging group and offers solutions in a wide range of technologies in paper, plastic, metal
and glass. On a month to month basis, between 600 to 1000 requests for a password reset are made by various Nampak users to a support desk. . Solution Intervate's development and implementation of the Password Self Service application is an SMS based application
that allows Nampak users to request their network password to be reset. The purpose of this application is to remove the administrative burden of resetting a password and more securely control the process followed and validation rules applied when a password
gets reset. The SMS must be in a specified format (such as Reset Password UsernameX). The SMS gateway will pass these messages on to the Password Reset application, which will validate that the username received matches to the user’s cell number (from Active
Directory). If this is correctly validated, the application will reset the password, and send the new password back to the requesting user via SMS. Before development is undertaken, a more detailed functional specification will be drawn up, and the following
determined: • SMS Format to be used • Finalize user validation method (i.e. Is Username + Cellphone number sufficient?) • Password generation algorithm / rules to be put in place (i.e. Should be a “strong” password, at least partially human readable and conform
to Nampak password policies)
