Application Description
The SharePoint Business Data List Connector connects any native SharePoint list (e.g. contacts, tasks, events, custom list etc. - no Web Parts or BCS) to almost any external data source, using a very simple browser-based dialogue. Simply click "Connect to external data source" in your SharePoint list settings and:
- Select connection provider
- Enter connection string
- Enter select statement
- Enter primary keys (if any)
The required SharePoint list structure is created automatically, filled with data and modified external data is updated very fast in background using a SharePoint timer job.
The desired data can be presented without any restrictions, with read-only and optionally full write-back / CRUD functionality of common native SharePoint lists made available: views, sorting and grouping, filters, calculated fields, search, workflow, RSS, email notifications - if external data is changed, etc.
The SharePoint Business Data List Connector (BDLC) can be used to connect SharePoint lists to databases, such as:

With the BDLC you can pull data to SharePoint lists directly from data files, e.g. MS Excel, MS Access, Visual Foxpro, DBF, Filemaker, Text-/HTMLfiles.
You can also link SharePoint lists directly to services like OLAP, Active Directory (AD), MS Project, MS SharePoint, MS Exchange, MS Index Server, IBM Lotus Notes, Navision, ODBC/OLEDB.
Using the Enterprise Enabler Add-On you can connect to Microsoft Exchange, web services, xml, .NET & COm+ objects, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics CRM / NAV and many more.
