Provides the ability to assign a Custom Project Workspace which can be selected when saving a project to Project Server.
In many organisations, different Project Workspace layouts may be required to support different functional requirements for different departments, for example, IT, Sales and Marketing, Finance, etc.
Each of these departments need to store documents, handle notifications, or view different reports from other systems, creating a Workspace specific to each department, and therefore benefiting the users in that department. Each Workspace is developed as a template and added to the SharePoint template list. When a Project Manager saves a project plan, they have the opportunity of selecting a custom field value (in the Project Information dialog) appropriate to the required template (e.g. Department). In doing so, when the project is saved, it uses the field value which corresponds to the Project workspace template to determine which template should be used. For example, each department can be mapped to its own template, but the use of the custom workspaces is not limited to department and is easily configured for other values.
Benefits include complete automated workspace generation using a template appropriate to the project or to an attribute of the project; ability to maintain multiple workspace templates with no user intervention; users are more productive; no manual updating of project workspaces required; considerable time saving; and organisations do not need to be reliant on one workspace template for all projects.
The Customised Workspace Utility is installed on the same system as Microsoft Project Server and requires either Microsoft Project Server 2007 to be installed. Pricing is per Project Server instance.
