Application Description
The Lync OCS Virtual Receptionist is a touch screen kiosk application for an unattended office lobby. The application serves as a communication portal for visitors to meet with or talk to company personal. The solution includes the following elements:
- touch screen monitor
- camera
- microphone
- application
The application feature set currently available includes:
- selection of an employee using Unified Communications presence indicators to contact via voice and video
- contact designated office personal by voice and video for delivery
- learn more about the company through access to company website
The system is based on Microsoft’s Unified Communication APIs which allow visitors to video conference with people inside Insource. Specifically the UCCAPI was heavily used to establish video conferences.
Benefits include:
- save money by not employing a dedicated receptionist
- Enhance security by enabling designated employees to screen visitors from their desk
- employees using Communicator can customize their preferences in relation to the virtual receptionist
- The hardware in use is not custom and runs on a standard Windows 7 touch-screen machine with a webcam/mic and without any other input devices. The hardware could be customized/hardened for less secure locations.
