OakLeaf Systems Azure Table Services Sample Project

by OakLeaf Systems

Application Description

The OakLeaf Systems Azure Table Services Sample Project (SampleWebCloudService.sln) application is a single-page test harness for Azure Table Services that’s based on Jim Nakashima’s Windows Azure Walkthrough: Simple Table Storage post of 10/28/2008. The project includes two C# Web role instances to obtain high availability and qualify for Windows Azure's Service Level Agreement of 99.95% availability.

Click the Demo button to run the live demonstration project at http://oakleaf.cloudapp.net. It demonstrates create, retrieve (with paging), update and delete (CRUD) operations on a 91-row Windows Azure table, which populates a bound ASP.NET GridView control.

SampleWebCloudService.sln was one of the topics of Roger Jennings' "Cloud Computing with the Windows Azure Platform" book from Wiley/Wrox, which was the first book published in the U.S> that covered Windows Azure programming techniques. It was also featured in his “Retire Your Data Center” cover story for the February 2009 issue of "Visual Studio Magazine."

SampleWebCloudService.sln, which went live in November 2008, is believed to be the oldest, continuously running, publly available project hosted on Windows Azure. The project is updated when the Windows Azure team updates the Windows Azure SDK. The current version is 1.4.

Click the Download button to obtain the SampleWebCloudService.sln source code for Visual Studio 2010 and the .NET Framework 4.0 from SkyDrive.

Seven posts to the OakLeaf Systems blog describe the application and its source code in detail. Click the Setup and Deployment link to read Part 1, which contains links to the other six parts.
