Application Description
Public Transportation is a multibillion dollar industry with valuable data that can be leveraged to enhance the public transit experience for commuters and improve customer service for transit operators. For a Transit Authority, exposing their data to the public can be a complex and expensive task which requires a substantial initial IT investment and ongoing support and maintenance services. Other than the inherent benefit of data transparency, there may be little return on this investment.
The answer is Public Transit Data Community (PTDC), a cloud-based Software-as-a-Service solution for publishing mass transit data on the Web in a variety of open formats for free consumption by people and applications. PTDC allows transit authorities to achieve data transparency at a fraction of the cost of an internal implementation. At the same time, PTDC increases value by connecting Public Transportation Agencies with a creative community whose applications will promote and enhance their services.
